Post by Professor Minerva McGonagall on Mar 7, 2005 4:53:39 GMT
Professor Minerva McGonagall moved through the rather empty hallway towards her classroom, wanting to make sure everything was ready for class by the time the class started. McGonagall expected only the best from her students and so she had the responsibility to make sure everything was in order for swift class-work. Noticing that two second years had already left breakfast, McGonagall watched the curiously for a moment, and noticed the Filibusters fire-works on their hands, causing the professor to frown sternly. It took only one glance at professor McGonagalls face for the two boys to gulp and hand over the fire-works, so McGonagall let them off with just a warning this time, before continuing towards her classroom.
Reaching her classroom professor McGonagall checked to see if the keeper of grounds and keys of the school had managed to fulfill her request. Seeing the two boxes of canaries, McGonagall let a rare smile appear on her thin lips. She was fairly certain a lot of people in the class would like the small birds they were transfiguring today. It was going to be a hard lesson and McGonagall was sure that there would be lot of struggling with the transformation today, but she hoped that over-rally the class would end well enough.
Looking at the clock on the class-room wall professor McGonagall saw that the lesson would start in 15 minutes, so she sat behind her desk and waited for her students to arrive.

Ivy pulled her yellow jumper over her head, checking the time on her watch, which was a simple thing, with a rounded face and thin leather strap. She didn't have all that long to go before the Transfiguration lesson started. Only about an hour and a half. She had woken fairly late today. Usually she was the first to rise, disturbed from her sleep by bad dreams and restlessness, at rather ghostly hours. The permanent, dark bags under her eyes bore witness to that. Although she had become used to it, and no longer felt tired all the time. If she was constantly on the move, doing something for someone else, that was when she was best. Then she could just get on with things, with no time to think. It was always like that for her. Not all of her fellow Hufflepuff third years were awake, of course, but at least two of them had already risen.
After lacing up her shoes, Ivy headed down to breakfast. She couldn't see anyone she knew around, so she ate quickly and was out of the Great Hall in just over five minutes. She returned to the dormitory, now fairly empty, packed her bag, and sat in the Common Room for a while, which was noisy with the morning bustle. She started down to Transfiguration early. She wanted to be able to be properly set up before the lesson started, because she would need her time in the lesson to try as hard as she could at her work. Ivy was fairly adept at Transfiguration, but it was a hard subject. But she hoped to do something related to Charms, so it would probably be good if she could manage to do a NEWT in Transfiguration, and at least to do well in her Transfiguration OWL. Ivy was becoming increasingly aware of these things as she neared the start of her OWLs.
By the time Ivy arrived at the classroom, the lesson was due to start in just under 10 minutes. She wasn't the first student there, but the room was still fairly empty. Ivy took a seat, fishing two quills, an inkpot, some parchment for rough notes and her Transfiguration notebook out of her bag. She sat there gazing into space, looking to the front desk to ponder what exactly they would be studying or transfiguring today, a white, pale beam of spring sunlight streaming through the windows that were set high in the wall, revealing the dust particles where it shone.

Jake was in high-spirits. Today was transfiguration, easily his favourite lesson and his usual grin was broadened slightly as he stepped out of the Great Hall, still munching on a peice of toast. A glance at his watch told him that he was going to be early, it was about ten or so minutes until the class actually began, the usual stragglers were only just starting breakfast.
Jake swallowed the final bite of toast and licked his lips, slipping the napkin he had been holding his toast into his pocket, then set off for the Transfiguration classroom.
Within two minutes, he was opening the door to McGonagall's classroom. As expected, he was one of the first one there, the transfiguration Professor was sat behind her desk and Jake gave her a courteous nod as he entered the room. He un-slung his bag from his back and took his usual seat at the right. He took out his quill, some parchment and his copy of, 'An Intermidiate Guide To Transfiguration then sat back in his chair, tapping his quill on his desk, and waited for his classmates and the start of the lesson.

Aislinn woke up to the recital of pink and purple shades dancing around the golden glow of the sun as it rested upon her closed eyes. Her eyes fluttered open to greet the day and she rose slowly to her feet stretching her long legs on the way up. She twisted her wrist around to take a glance at her silver-faced watch before taking in a long breath of morning and smiled slightly. Transfiguration was one of her favorite classes and she was excited to attend the lesson, so she hurriedly put on her uniform and robes. Finally she slid into her shoes and quickly grabbed her satchel, packed the night before, before taking off towards the Transfiguration classroom.
She entered the classroom with cheer but quickly hid her expression from her classmates; she still wondered if some of them were still upset with the fact that she didn't return their owls over the summer. Noticing a fellow dorm mate sitting alone, she slid into the seat next to her and began to pull out her book, parchment and a pristine white quill. Aislinn gave the girl a slight smile before focusing her aquamarine eyes to the front of the room awaiting the start of the class.

Liz breathed deeply as she walked back towards the castle. She had been out on her regular jogging tour for two miles for every morning and as it had smelled like spring outside already, she had ran twice as much today. Liz was tired but rather content as she trudged back to the Gryffindor tower to have a quick shower and to dress into an uniform. Transfiguration was the first class today, so Liz took extra-care to make sure that her uniform was in best order, as McGonagall didn’t allow tardiness in her class.
Grabbing her regular cheese-sandwich and a pitcher of apple-juice from the Great Hall, Liz was done with enough spare time for the class to start. She had about 7 minutes as Liz noticed, after entering the classroom and greeting professor McGonagall silently. Liz was fairly good in Transfiguration, so she didn’t mind the class, even though they were always challenging.
As none of the people Liz knew where there, she slipped into a seat about in the middle of the class behind two Hufflepuffs and quietly pulled out her book, quill, ink-well and a parchment. After that Liz just silently sat and waited for the lesson to begin.

Faith drained her orange juice and swung her bag onto the bench next to her. She delved into it, searching for the peice of parchment that was her timetable and eventually found it, crumpled but still readable, between two pages in one of her Diviantion books. She took another spoonful of porridge, and with her spare hands, straightened out the parchement and figured out the first lesson of the day. Transfiguration.
Faith was not the biggest fan of the particular subject, she found it rather difficult at times, but she regarded McGonagall as a good teacher and she took a geniune interest in her subject, even though it was not her forte, so it was with a cheerful disposition that Faith polished off her breakfast and headed out of the Great Hall to Transfiguration.
It was not a long walk and soon enough Faith rounded the bend and saw the familiar wooden door into the classroom, open this time. She walked in and gave Professor McGonagall a quick smile as she looked around for any familiar faces. Faith quickly spotted Liz, an elder Gryffindor who she had met before, and slid into the chair next to her, hoping she didn't mind and greeting her with a grin.
"Hiya," She said in a hushed but cheery voice, as she took out the nessecary equipment and placed them infront of her.

Riku rushed out of the common room in a jog. She didn't want to be late to transifiguration. She breezed past students, who sometimes gave her puzzled looks, in a rush. Today she had waken up early and went out for a jog. She accidently stayed out longer than she had meant to. After she went into the great hall for a piece of toast, then into there dormitory to change, she went into the common room to read for a while. She almost lost track of time.
As Riku neared the classroom her jog turned to a walk and her breathing slowed. She was early, she realized, as she walked into the room and saw it practially empty. She smiled at Professor McGonagall then looked around the room. She saw no one of whom she was aquainted with and only one was in her house yet a different year.
'Oh well, can't expect the world,' She thought to herself with a small smile. She bit her lip slightly as she went over and took a seat by herself. She put her bag down then sighed as she watched the clock awaiting the class to begin.

Cass rushed out of the common room in a flurry as usual. She really couldn't understnd why she couldn't wake up in the mornings. She had been having awful fits ever since Pyro and her had that talk in the hospital wing. She was horribly upset about it. She knew he would choose his house over her, but she really hoped he wouldn't. She wished he was different, and thought he was. Her heart dropped as she thougt about him. Her friend.
She walked into the transfiguration classroom very down. She nodded to Professor McGonagall on her way to her desk. She threw a "hi" towards Faith and Elizabeth as she sat behind him. The fake smile didn't last long however. God, she really wanted to talk to Dana.

Post by Vincent Crabbe Jr. on Mar 9, 2005 17:22:11 GMT
Vincent walked slowly to the Transfiguration lesson. He always struggled with this. Despite the fact that he had managed a pass, it was not his strongest subject. A shame he couldn't take studies in bullying younger students. Now that, he was good at. But as for Transfiguration... well, he was taking it, and he had to pass it. He would never take naturally to the subject. It took him a long time to master each spell. He often didn't succeed in each lesson. But he practiced enough afterwards, so that with enough stubborness, he succeeded.
He hesitated before pushing open the door to the room, blinking as the spring light streamed into his eyes. He probably needed glasses, actually, he was doing a lot of squinting recently, but he didn't know where to go to get them, so he'd just have to carry on as he was. He sat down around the middle of the room, somewhere where he wouldn't be disturbed so he could get on with his work.

Keirra sat up in her bed rather startled, not that was unusual due to her constant fear that she would be late to any of her first lessons. To her relief she had not awoken late and even had extra time on her hands which was a welcoming fact. She practically jumped out of her bed and hurriedly changed into her uniform making sure it looked perfect. After quickly running a brush through her hair she grabbed her bag and headed for the great hall.
She slid onto a seat and began to eat a muffin managing to not drop a single crumb on her. Keirra spent her remaining time reading over her time table and making certain that she would be taking the quickest route possible. With only five minutes to spare she hopped up from her seat and headed to the Transfiguration classroom at a half-run.
As soon as she entered the room she noted three fellow Gryffindors and gave a nod to Professor McGonagall before taking a seat behind a girl, Keirra tried to remember her name. Finally it came to her: Cassandra. Without saying a word she pulled out all of her supplies for the course and smiled at her fellow classmates but it quickly disappeared at the sight of Vincent Crabbe. She was never fond of Slytherin let alone Crabbe as well his friends Goyle and Malfoy. With a sigh she awaited the start of class.

McGonagall nodded to the students who were entering and in thought made notes as to how good all students were in her subject. There were some with natural talent in class as well as some who had to practice a lot to make a spell work. Professor McGonagall looked at the clock on the wall once again and started exactly as the last minute ended and class officially started.
“Good morning students. Today we are going to have a rather difficult transfiguration ahead of us, so we’ll start practicing almost immediately, so you may put away your books, parchments and quills. We are going to be transfiguring canaries into quills today – the better and more exclusive looking the quill, the better you have completed the charm. Shabby looking roots of quills, quills that squeek, move around or try to fly so a bad use of the spell,” professor McGonagall started the lesson and moved out from behind her table and let her eyes sternly take in all the students in the class-room, “Now, who can tell me why this sort of transfiguration is complex?”
Karissa walked into Transfiguration and sat down in a seat at the front. Her long black hair was pulled back in a ponytail at the nape of her neck so she could see, and she had stuck her wand over her ear for safe-keeping. It was rather slender, so it wasn't painful to hold it there. Karissa put away her quills and parchment when Professor McGonagall said so and then asked a question.
Kari raised hr hand and stretched it as far as it would go. She kept it held up in the air so McGonagall could see.

Amelia walked into the classroom and sat down in the middle row. She flipped her long blonde hair form her eyes and took out her book. That is untill Professor McGonagall said to put them away. She sighed and put her book in her book bag and took out her wand. She smiled at the professor and looked about the room. She squeeked in excitment when she found Ivy.
She grabbed her things and hurried over to Ivy's table. With a large smile, she sat down next to her.
"Hey ivy!" Amelia said happily.

Pyro ran down the hallway cursing himself. For the past few days his little family problem had been distracting him. And it was starting to affect his school work. He did manage to make it to the great hall and snatch himself some food to eat on the run. He approached the Transfiguration classroom and skidded into the doorway just as McGonagall was about to start the class. "um..Sorry Professor." He said hastily, not really meaning it to much. He quickly slid into a seat near the back and close to the door.
He droped his bag with a sigh and put his elbow on the table and his head on his hand. He listened to McGonagall speak. He was pretty sure that he knew the answer to her question. And since he just entered class a bit late, he needed to get back on her good side. He raised his hand into the air.

Ivy smiled back at Aislinn as she was joined by her. Aislinn still didn't say much. Ivy was not really in a chatting mood, so she kept quiet as well, not saying anything, instead staring blankly into the space ahead of her. She was not unhappy, just being slightly absent-minded. It was good to let your thoughts drift once in a while. Ivy's attention came back as Professor McGonagall started the class.
Ivy thought she might have some idea about the Professor's question, although she was not entirely sure, and knew that she would probably not be called on. She rose her hand tentatively into the air nevertheless, smiling quietly at Amelia as she joined them as well, but not saying anything, not wanting to get in trouble with Professor McGonagall for talking.

Professor McGonagall looked at the students who had raised their arms. The question was fairly easy, when you thought about it logically actually, but it seemed as if a lot of people were a bit afraid to answer. McGonagall frowned as a third year Slytherin rushed into the classroom late: “Perhaps you would need to transfigure you into a watch, so you wouldn’t be late and disturb the whole class with it. I won’t tolerate this kind of behavior in my class. Make sure to be on time the next time.”
As the Slytherin guy sat down McGonagall scanned the students who had raised their hands once again, and nodded towards the girl who had raised hers first: “Yes, ms. Chiff, please answer the question. Mr.Blackfire and ms. Tunstall – if you have anything to add to ms. Chiff’s answer, then please do so.”
Kari thought about it.
"Well, I'm pretty sure it may be because we're transfiguring an inanimate object into an animate one, or vice versa." Kari wasn't sure she was right, but she thought it might have something to do with it. "We're reversing the life force of the object."

Post by Samantha Driscoll on Mar 12, 2005 21:05:53 GMT
Samantha narrowed her eyes as she slid gracefully into a chair in the third row of the Transfiguration classroom. She was seated erectly and listening attentively to Professor McGonagall, a person she respected but did not like. Professor McGonagall was sarcastic and hard on her students, and she knew how to make a class do its best, but she was the Head of Gryffindor, and the traditional Slytherin-Gryffindor rivalry made Samantha find it difficult to like her. Samantha looked at the students in the two rows in front of her. Filth. Why should she be in the same classroom as them? It would probably take them hours to finish whatever they were going to learn today.
She slipped Vincent Crabbe who was sitting beside her a small brownie when the professor was looking the other way. Some people might be surprised at why Samantha was trying to befriend him. But Samantha had her reasons. She had seen his efforts at studying this year and she also knew that despite his weight he was very strong. Both assets she could make use of for her own benefit. The way to Vincent's heart was his stomach, everyone knew that. Samantha never had a heavy breakfast, so it was easy for her to take a brownie from the breakfast table and not be tempted to eat it herself. She gave him a small smile then turned back to look at the Professor who had just asked a question. It was quite easy, but Samantha didn’t raise her hand to answer it, disgusted by the others who had done so. The girl who got called upon gave a really short answer. Well, she was in Gryffindor and had mixed blood. What could anyone expect from the likes of her?

Transfiguration was always a fun class, and Robin walked in quite keen on finding out what they would be doing today. He found himself a seat in the middle of the second row, in the middle of a bunch of younger students, which weren't chattering as they might have been had Professor McGonagall not been the teacher at the front of the class. There were still five minutes left before the beginning of class but still no one was talking. Professor McGonagall never hesitated to take away point from any wrong doers even from her own house. Any nonsense in her class was usually met with a sarcastic comment and swift punishment. Book open on the section of animal transfigurations which he was quite pleased to see they would be covering today as he had already read that section in advance, he pulled out his wand and then put his book away as the Professor asked them to.
Soon the class had started, everybody listening intently to the Professor as a few hands were raised to answer her first question. Even the canaries at the front of the room were making no sound, as if they were also wary of Professor McGonagall. Robin listened to the third year's answer, thinking it was good enough for a third year, and hoping for a few points for Gryffindor. They were in desperate need of them as they were in the last position at the moment, and not even to close to the other houses.

Katie groaned inside when she heard Professor McGonagall tell the class that this transfiguration was going to be particularly hard this week. She heard the question being asked and although she wanted too, Katie did not raise her hand. Just because she knew that the lesson would be hard and the reason why it would be hard did not mean she had to admit to it. She had unhappily made her way to class this morning hoping and wishing that this would not be a hard lesson and yet it would be. Katie wished more than anything that she could just go back to her dorm room and hide under the covers. She sighed and fought back the incredible urge to slump down in her seat, waiting for this disaster lesson to begin. The sooner it started, the sooner it would be over.
