Laura had been silent through most of the lesson, absorbing new information she didn’t know and admiring the huge dragons in front of her, her hand itching for a quill and parchment to try and capture even a small bit of their power and royalty. Maybe it was a reminiscent of child-hood but Laura was still enthralled by all the creatures they were studying in Care Of Magical Creatures, as she had once taught that all these creatures – dragons and unicorns – were creatures from myths. Maybe that was why Laura took Care of Magical Creatures class, even though it was sometimes slightly dangerous.
It was when the dragon-tamer said that they would get to touch and feed the newly-hatched dragons, when Laura almost gasped. She could hold on of those animals? But wouldn’t the older dragons get angry?
None the less Laura tried to push her uncertainty down and pulled a dragon-hide vest and gloves on. As silly as it sounded, somehow it seemed to comfort Laura to have them on.
Picking up some pieces of meat from a near-by bucket that Hagrid had probably delivered there before Laura warily approached a Swedish Short-snout. Reaching her hand with a piece of meat forward Laura could suppress a giggle as the small dragon started munching on it , even though the action wasn’t done very neatly with pieces of meat flying around the dragons mouth.
“Well, you are a lot more cuter than I expected you to be,” Laura whispered to the dragon softly pulling a string of meat that had gotten stuck at his teeth and freeing it before feeding the dragon an other piece of meat, feeling a bit better about the small animal now. But still keeping a wary eye on the grown dragons – Laura guessed they were kept calm by some charms, so they wouldn’t attack.
