Post by Professor Sybil Trelawney on Apr 18, 2005 11:35:41 GMT
Sybil opened the door to her tower top classroom and let the inviting smells of pungent incense escape out into the hallway. She knew that the room was abnormally hot, but she believed that it helped stir the psychic senses. Placing scarves on each lampshade, she hummed lightly to herself. The scarves cast eerie colors on the floor, making the room seem darker than it really was. Each table had a glass box on it with a stack of worn cards inside. The boxes had several inscriptions on it that were in a language that she doubted the students could read.
As the student’s began to flow into the room, she announced, “Students, please select a partner. We will begin studying the art of Tarot reading today. Please turn your books to page 1098 and begin studying the cards and what they mean. You will be learning today how to do a……” Sybil became distracted as she watched a young Gryffindor walk into the room. Tsking loudly, she took the girl’s hand and rubbed it sympathetically. “Oh, dear. I’m sorry about your cat.” The girl’s eyes raised in surprise as Trelawney walked away from her.
Not worried about the young girl’s reaction, she watched as the remainder of her student’s filed into the classroom.

Dana walked up the stair-case to towards the Divination classroom slowly. It was not that she was tired in any way – Dana was in good enough shape to run up this staircase without starting to breath heavily, but it was rather the class she was heading to. Divination. Why did she take the class again? She had absolutely no talent in it what so ever. Dana figured she would drop it next year though. There was only that much her patience could take and the smell was awful. Was Trelawney trying to get high or something? What did she burn anyway? Lotus?
Entering the classroom Dana almost groaned seeing she was first to arrive. Sending an absent-minded nod towards the professor – there were some rules of politeness to be followed – Dana moved to the table furthest from Trelawney’s desk and opened the window next to it. She didn’t want to get a migraine but being in Trelawney’s class in all these fumes always managed to give Dana a head-ache. Sitting down Dana glanced at the glass box on the table. Tarot cards? At least something that didn’t require much thinking today, or making things up today. And the inscriptions on the boxes were in… was that latin? And some old-greek? Not really caring to look more closely – it was Divination after all – Dana pulled out her potions book and started revising.
Hearing Trelawney starting the class Dana flipped her book open to the correct page, but not bothering herself enough to look for a partner just yet. She would finish the page and the potion she had been checking and then look around to see who didn’t have a partner yet. Or maybe someone would approach her. At least the air around her seemed to clear a bit thanks to the open window.

Pyro walked lazily up the spiral staircase leading towards the divination classroom. As he walked he thought of the same thing he thought of every time he walked to this class. Why on earth did he ever sign up for this. He couldnt remember what frame of mind he was in when he signed up for the class. "Hey look, divination, read the future, sounds usefull." Yea, that was a bunch of bull. Not only was divination a worthless art that was incorrect most of the time. They were beig taught by a incompetent Professor. Trelawney couldn't foretell her way out of a paperbag.
Pyro steped into the classroom which had its usualy smells. Pyro saw Dana and noticed she had opened a window. As he walked to her the Professor called out and told them to find partners. Pyro looked at Dana, but figured to allowe her a partner in her own year. Although he did want to sit in the pocket of fresh air Dana had created. He took a seat in the table next to hers, taking a deep breath of the fresh air comming from the window.
He put his feet up on the table and reached into the box, pulling out some of the cards. He held them up to his face and looked at them. Reading the names he gave a short chuckle. He absent mindely pulled out his book and turned it to the page and looked at the list of cards and than at the card in his hand. He arched an eyebrow as he looked at the cards meaning. "This is so bogus." He muttered under his breath.

Tristan rose lazily from his bed, dressed and headed down to the great hall for breakfast. At the ravebclaw table he took a slice of toast from a large silver platter and examined his timetable:
9:00 - Divination 10:00 - Care of magical creatures 11:00 - break 11:30 - Potions 12:30 - Transfiguration 1:30 - Lunch 2:30 - FREE PERIOD
Tristan Siged with relief on one hand and shuddered a little on the other. His last class today would be Transfiguration ending at lunchtime. Unfortunately he would have to go through Divination today.
A slice of toast and a cup of tea later Tristan found himself mounting the spiral staircase to the transfiguratin class room. As soon as he entered the room he inhaled the sickly sweet fumes of Professor Trelawney's incense. He smell almost consumed him and it was all he could do to stop himself choking right there in front of the teacher.
Tristan took a seat by Dana ((do you mind ? ? )) ,unpacked his textbook and listened to the teachers words. He turned to page 1098 and was about to begin reading when he realised he needed a partner. Gazing around the room he saw no friendly faces except for the girl he sat next to, Dana. Her BLACK ((lol)) hair was how he recognised her first. He spoke to her, "Dana, would you be my partner? That is unless you had someone else in mind..."

Robert walked in perfctly on time. though it was too hot for his liking, he found the smell of the room's atmosphere relaxing. As a child he would have preminisions and dream of things that would eventually come true. most of the time he believed it to be luck, but other times, it was unrealistic. So Divination seemed like a class he'd like. Being a Christian, his family didn't love the fact that he could do witchcraft at first, but they grew to understand the good of it. He knew just how dissapointed they'd be when they found out what he was learning to do today.
Robert peered around the room. He noticed a fellow Raven in the same year as he. He'd once seen Tristan at a small place in Diagon Alley, here he worked a part time job. Before Robert could ask him if he'd like to be partners, he asked someone else. Darn it. This is going to be harder than it looks, he thought to himself. He waited to see if Tristan was still open for a partner as he stood in a corner.

"Actually Dana," Tristan siad, "That boy over by the wall looks a bit lonely. I think I'll sit with him." Tristan didn't want to be mean but the boy did look awfully lonely and Tristan new for a fact that Dana had lots of friends. Tristan shifted to another table and asked Rober if he would like to join him there.
((Considering we are already friends and have a post together i think I'll talk to the other boy. He hasn't anyone to sit with. Thanx Dana;) ))

Robert didn't hear exactly what Tristan said to Dana, but was glad none the less that he'd gotten a partner. He didn't want to seem desparate but it was too late. Robert answered him, "Sure," Robert looked around at the people still entering up the ladder, " we better get seats before there aren't any left."

Tristan and robert decided on a table near the front. Robert was interested to learn about divination and Tristan respected that. Tristan didn't know what to expact. All he knew about didvination was that many students found it boring.
He was a little nervous to tell the truth. He excelled at his schoolwork, but now he was entering a subject where he couldn't learn things ahead or do extra study.
Unpacking his things a second time Tristan made himself comfortable in the red puffy armchair he was in. The heat began to get to him and he undid his top button and fanned himself with his notebook.
"So do you know anything about Tarot?" Tristan asked his campanion. Tristan himself new a few basic rules of Tarot. He had already finished half of the Divination textbook.
There are 78 cards in the Tarot, 22 Major Arcana, and the rest Minor Arcana. In general, the Major Arcana have to do with the major themes of life, and with outside influences. The High Priestess represents the spiritual, the intuitive, the magical. The Empress represents the Earth Mother, mothering in general, creativity. The Minor Arcana more often represent themes in daily life, i.e., the Six of Swords traditionally represents journeys by water, and the Ace of Pentacles a new beginning in a financial or other earthly matter.
Each suit is associated with different qualities. Usually, Wands are associated with the element of Fire (although some assign it to Air) and represent activity and energy. Swords are usually associated with Air (but some give Swords to the Fire element), and represent the mental plane, thought and communication. Cups represent Water, the feeling element, and intuition. Pentacles or Disks represent Earth and the physical plane.

Laura climbed the staircase that lead to the Divination class-room. It was an interesting lesson in Laura’s opinion, even though the professor seemed a bit off in her own land from time to time. At least it was an easy and pleasurable class. Laura wasn’t very certain about whether she believed in telling the future or not – there were strong proof for both sides. Entering the classroom Laura greeted professor Trelawney quietly and retreated to a table. The cards in the middle of the table caught Laura’s eyes as she tried to guess what language the words on the glass-box were on. She certainly couldn’t read it.
Laura pulled out her quill, some parchment and her book as professor Trelawney started the class. They would have to work with partners. For someone as shy and not really very social as Laura it might be a problem. Laura opened her book from the correct page and then raised her eyes to see who else was taking the class. Maybe some Hufflepuffs were – Laura might ask them to be her partner in this class.

Caiest sighed as she made her way to the Divination classroom. She really didn't like attending classes but there was nothing better to do with her time. Besides if she didn't go to class all she'd want to do is train and since classes were in session there was no where to train so she'd attend class. As she entered the hot air hit her and Caiest found it hard to breath. She then remembered why she hated this class so much it was so claustorphobic in here it wasn't funny.
Once in the Classroom she took a look around. She wasn't the first person in here as there were several students already in here. She recognized most of them. There was Pyro who she avoided even looking at. She was by no means happy with him these days. There was Tristan the boy who'd seen her have a mental breakdown in the hallways with Dana and Cassandra. She nodded to him and the other boy who was in her year but she'd never spoken to. Then there was Dana. Caiest walked over to Dana. "Mind if I join you?" She asked for the teacher had told them all to partner up.

Luna took extra care in dressing that morning. Divination was going to be today and Luna wanted to prepare for everything they might be learning. Some protective crystals into her pockets, a white pearl into her right shoe to protect against breaking a bone, some radishes for ear-rings and she was ready to go. Tucking her wand behind her hair, Luna pulled on her cloak and walked out of the dormitory and Ravenclaw common room, heading towards the tower where professor Trelawney’s class was. Some people sometimes called Luna dotty, but actually she just believed in being prepared for everything.
Luna climbed in through the trap-door leading to Divination class-room and smiled hazily at the professor. The classes were intriguing to say the least. Her mother would certainly like them, which was perhaps why Luna took the class. Moving towards one of the front desks Luna gracefully sat down and looked at the Tarot cards on the tables. Fortune telling. It would be very interesting really. Opening her book, Luna smiled at the cards and start to take them out of the box they were in slowly, looking at each one in turn, while inhaling the rather exotic smell of herbs the professor burned deeply.

Cassie flounced into the divination classroom with a huge smile on her face. It had been a good day. Potions had actually gone well for once, she found a galleon near the loose step on the staircase, and she was having a good hair day. Well, she was having a good hair day know that she cut her hair. Her know chin length hair barely swept her shoulders, and it made her feel great.
Gracing into the classroom, she waived to all her friends. Noticing everyone partnering up, she flounced up to Pyro's table and sat down. " Wanna start some more rumors?" She flashed him a huge smile.

Desiray rose that morning in a very bad mood. She never was a morning person and this morning she was particularly nasty. She groaned as she stood and got dressed slowly, glancing at the clock every few minutes, wanting to make sure she wasn't late for Divination. She wore her skirt reguarly today instead of rolling up the elastic part so it was shorter. No, today she left it alone. Desiray put on her white shirt, leaving about four buttons undone at the top and tieing the Slytherin tye very loosly. She slipped on her knee length white socks and her black boots. She then put her hair up in a messy pony tail and did her make-up.
An hour later she was walking down the hallway toward the Divination classroom, yawning the whole way. She climbed the lader into the stuffy classroom and settled in a seat, laying her head down on the small round table, her mind already falling asleep.

AS she stepped into the room she quickly looked about and nodded to fellow housemates. She strode up to an empty spot on the very front row as close to a window as she could get; placed her book unto the table , where it fell open to page 1080, and sat down being very careful to arrange her heavy robe just so. " Oh.." she mumbled to herself as with one hand she turned to the correct page and with the other she quickly pulled an elaborate blood-red box from her bag.

Dana didn’t even have time to look up from her book when some boy, who sounded familiar, approached her and asked to be partners. And then left as quickly as he had came. Finishing the sentence she had been reading Dana glanced up just in time to see Tristian walking away from the table again. Shrugging – there would be other people to partner with and Dana wasn’t picky and got along with most people, she wasn’t really disturbed. Lowering her eyes to her book Dana had barely had time to read a little bit more before Caiest approached her.
“Partners? Would be great on one condition,” Dana closed her book and putting it on the table, leaned closer to Caiest and lowered her voice a little, “You won’t mind me not liking Trelawney and we stay here.”
Leaning back in her chair Dana grinned and nodded towards the open window: “And I need the fresh air. Whatever the professor smokes in here always makes my head ache. I think I’ll drop the subject when this year is over. I have absolutely no talent in it what so ever. I have to admit that I make up most of my homework as well.” Dana grimaced at the thought – she had tried to do some real work for homework, but hadn’t succeeded. But her Ravenclaw nature still was very seriously disturbed about having to make things up none the less.
Dana sighed and glanced towards the professor to see what order she would give for class: “Want to do the reading for me first?”
Post by Ivy Tunstall on Apr 20, 2005 16:18:03 GMT
Ivy sighed as she started to climb up the spindly ladder that would lead her to the Divination classroom. She usually arrived later than most people; not late, but not early either. Divination was on no account her favourite subject. She just couldn't do it. Most subjects came to her with work, some she was just naturally adept at, but Divination was something she couldn't do. No matter how much, or how little she tried. The room usually gave her a headache as well. The... whatever it was... Professor Trelawney burnt was pretty pungent. And Ivy wasn't partial to the scent.
Ivy looked around the classroom for anyone she knew. She hardly knew any of the people here. But she knew Laura, not very well, but well enough to sit with her. Ivy made her way over to Laura and gave her a smile as she sat down on one of the pouffes next to her. She sank into it and grimaced. She'd probably get back ache too at this rate, as well as a headache. She looked over Laura's shoulder to see the page number, drew her own textbook out of her bag and started flicking through it to find the correct page. "Do you know what we're doing?" Ivy asked the other third year, as she did so, finally getting to the page and reading the heading 'Tarot cards'. "Ah, Tarot cards," she said, answering her own question. "I may need your help with this, I can't do Divination." She smiled nervously at the other Hufflepuff, hoping her having come and sat next to her wasn't an intrusion. Ivy hadn't been thinking about it as she had instead been focusing gloomily on the fact she was fated to take this Divination lesson.

Drake sighed as he walked out of the dorm toward the Divination class. He had just woken up and was not ready to learn.
When he reached the class he was frustrated to find out that he had to climb a spiral staircase to get to the class. He was, however, excited to be learning the art of Divination.
Drake was astonished at all the devices he saw in the room that would help him learn to see the future. He found a seat in the front of the room. Oddly enough he would be sitting on a cloud. He tapped his fingers as he awaited the start of the class.

Post by Melody Bang-Bala G6 on Apr 21, 2005 20:41:34 GMT
Melody entered the Divination classroom with a mixture of anticipation and regret. She wasn't particularly fond of the scent of it - she found it rather heady - but she did rather enjoy the subject. Although the fact that it was too hot and the herbs Professor Trelawney burnt did nothing to increase Melody's awareness of any other senses. She felt far more in contact with greater things when she was outside and could feel the energy of nature. But there were lots of things she found interesting about doing Divination with Professor Trelawney, despite the fact the conditions weren't ideal for her. So her mood was overall positive as she finally stepped onto the floor from an upper rung of the ladder.
Everyone appeared to be pairing up. She couldn't see anyone she knew apart from Dana, and Dana already seemed to have a partner, so she looked around for someone who looked as though they might be appreciative of Divination. Her eyes sweeped the classroom quickly, and came back to rest on one particular girl. With her radish earrings and wand tucked behind her hair, she looked a great deal more weird than Melody with her bunches bobbing beside her as she walked. Melody set her bag down beside the girl and sat down on one of the squashy armchairs around the table she was sitting at. "Ello there," she greeted the girl. "Tha dun appear ter 'ave a partner yet, so would yer mind going with meself?" Having asked in such a way was perhaps not her most usual way of going about things, but the girl did on closer inspection appear to be a little bit older than Melody and she looked focused on what she was doing. Which was Melody's intention. She didn't want someone who was going to be complaining about Divination. Melody wondered if the girl had heard her, and contemplated whether she should pick up one of the tarot cards to get her attention.

Post by Lenora Byers on Apr 23, 2005 6:14:36 GMT
Blue eyes sparkling Lenora studied her reflection in the mirror and grinned. Today was divination and she couldn’t be any happier about it. It was by far her favorite subject and today she had pulled the “Awareness” card to boot. Everyday Lenora would pull a Zen Tarot Card to give her advice, insight, or just something to think about that day. With a final sweep of the brush through her hair and straightening oh her red and gold tie Lenora skipped down to the Great Hall. There she sat flipping through her divination book trying to imagine what they could be doing that day while eating grapes, strawberries, and whipped cream for breakfast with a glass of juice.
Ten minutes left before class and Lenora practically ran up the steps toward the divination tower. As she mounted to ladder she walked gingerly up to the Professor. “Good morning Professor Trelawney” she said with a wide grin before the Professor clasped her hand. “Oh, dear. I’m sorry about your cat.” She said and Lenora looked up in surprise. Her mind jumped to Pumpkin who she had last seen curled up at the end of her bed sleeping peacefully… She would have to check on her after class for sure.
Still worried about her kitten Lenora walked over to an empty table and plopped down into a seat. She looked up at the professor and turned to the page she was told to; tarot card, could this day get any better? She looked around the classroom happily but mind still slightly concerned with her poor little Pumpkin.

Sybil watched as the girl took her seat. " Class, settle down. Settle down. We are now going to study the precise are of reading tarot cards. I hope you all have chosen a partner. Now, a few questions before we begin class."
Sybil surveyed the class. " You there," her bangles clanked as she pointed to the dark haired girl from Ravenclaw (Dana), " We all know that many of the cards in the tarot deck have some very bad connotations attached to it. For example, the death card has always had a bad reputation. But, what does the card truly mean?" She looked at the girl through her glasses that made her eyes look too large.
Pointing absent mindedly toward the girl who had been last to enter her class (Lenora), " Could you please demonstrate to us the most common tarot spread, or the Celtic Cross dear?"
She flicked her wand toward a large board that graced the front of the classroom. It turned over to reveal what looked like a felt board. " Just place the cards on the board dear and demonstrate to the class. Don't read them, just demonstrate the spread and show us the placement of them on the board. "
