Severus Snape swept into the room from his private store rooms and made all doors to the room close with his wand while he walked over to his desk. Standing behind it he looked out at the kids lucky enough to have been chosen for his newts class. While he made the ingredients appear on the board he anounced, "Today you will be making a Deflating Draught, it should be no problem for you seeing as only those talented with a gift for brewing potions are allowed into my newts classes. Do not disapoint me..." Snape looked out at the class feeling that he wouldn't have to hand out homework assignments to any of them while he knew some deserved it. With a stony face Snape sat down and got to work on the grading which never seemed to have an end.

Julie Rosewood looked at her watch. Sighing softly she realized she had better leave the book she was reading, Magical Herbs: Uses in Potion-brewing, and go to her Potions class. It would never do to be late for that class. It hadn't been easy to get into Snape's NEWT class; he demanded an O to allow you take the subject, and Julie only wanted to take Potions because anybody interested in Herbology had to have a good knowledge of Potions. It wasn't that she hated the subject, but she preferred her other classes and also Advanced Potions required a lot of concentration and accuracy.
Julie walked into the depressing Dungeons and said a quiet "Good afternoon, Professor Snape" to the wizard seated at the desk. She took a seat in the middle of the second row beside her cauldron. Julie took some pins and a piece of ribbon out of a pocket in her robe. She tied her long hair back and wound it deftly into a tight bun tying it with the ribbon and then securing it with some pins. Snape barked out some instructions and then their work for the day appeared on the board. Julie looked at the ingredients needed to make a Deflating Draught which had just appeared.

Pansy casually strolled down the dungeon corridor from the Slytherin Common room. First up for the day was potions, which was one of Pansy's favorite classes. There was simply nothing better than seeing the Professor tear apart Potter and his dumb friends on a daily basis.
Upon entering the room she found only a few students present, and the professor was not yet there. Looking around in disgust, she found no other Slytherins yet. Instead she walked across the room and took her usual seat, which was prime location for seeing Potter's reactions. With a sigh of disgust she threw down her books and sat down, awaiting the start of class.
Shortly thereafter the professor entered and announced they'd be working on Deflating Draughts. With the ingredients on the board she wrote them down onto her parchment. Once the professor told them to begin, Pansy took her notes to the back of the room and retrieved every ingredient she would need from the cabinets. After carefully weighing and measuring each to be sure it was accurate, Pansy returned to her seat and then awaited the professor's instructions on what the first step was to be.

Valerie entered the potions classroom and immediately took her seat towards the side of the classroom. When Professor Snape put the ingredients on the board then began to grade papers, Valerie got up and went to collect her things from the back of the room.
In short time she returned with what she would need to complete this potion. She then sat down and quietly waited for the next bit of instructions. While waiting she neatly arranged the ingredients based on their colors, on the far right were the brighest ingredients while the far left had the darkest ones.

him and dismissed her with a slight wave of his hand as she sat down and glanced out at his students. Seeing that they were not working he scowled, they were waiting for instructions, when they've all got told how to make the potion or made the potion at some time in their years at Hogwarts. Abandoning the papers until later Severus Snape stood up and scowled out at the class.
"Well what are you all waiting for? You should be able to figure out such a simple potion, or it should be simple for those lucky enough to get in this class, or are my expectations to high? Has such a short absence from learning robbed you of the ability to find the instructions in your book, or did you not remember that that is what books are for? Such a short time am I know teaching another class full of dunderheads or have you always been?" Snape scowled out at the students and then spun around and waved his wand angrily at the board and a page number appeared under the list of ingredients already on the board.
Step 1: Fill your cauldron with 3 liters of fresh water.
Step 2: Boil the water
Step 3: Crush your salt crystals into a fine powder and add to the potion when it begins to boil. Stir vigorously. Allow potion to simmer for 5 minutes.
Sitting down again Snape leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms over his chest and glared out at the students to make sure they weren't so stupid as to not understand what he just said.

Dawn walked into her potions class room. She loved potions above any other class. So easy, and so Funny. As her mind slipped off and thought of Potter and Weasley.
Seeing Pansy already in the classroom she found a seat next to her. Setting her bag down she listend to Snape tell the class they were making Deflating Draught. "Easy enough." she thought. Dawn walked to the back of the class and gathered up all of her ingredents. Bring them back to her seat she measured them and made them percise. Putting the ingredients back in the cupboard she turned around and listened to Snape vent. Smiling Dawn walked over toward her caldron and began to start on the potion as she watched other run around the room gathering up there stuff.
In the middle of crushing her cyrstals, Dawn turned to Pansy and said, "Where is Potter? Skipping? haha Poor boy cant stand a class with Snape can he." Laughing Dawn went back to her potion.

Harry walked through the dungeon corridors toward his potions class. Dreading it knowing Slytherins were going to be there and knowing he was going to be the main object of play for Snape, he slowly walked down the cold hallway.
Reaching the class he opened the door. Standing up straight he didnt look at anyone in the class. Hearing Snape yell about a potion, Harry turned to a page in his book with the list of ingredents and how to do it. Walking toward the back of the class he gathered up all of his ingredients and measured them to exact level. Filling his cauldon up with water he began to start is potion.
Harry didnt say a word or make eye contact with anyone in the room. He kept his head high, but his eyes down.

The Deflating Draught was not too hard to make in comparison with the other Potions Snape usually made them make. Now her hair was out of the way, Julie went over to the Potions cupboard and got out the required ingredients. She looked up the Deflating Draught in the index at the back of her book, and opened the page describing the method to make, and effects of, the potion. She went over to the sink and measured three litres of water and spilled them into her cauldron. She said the incantation to set fire to the wood under her cauldron with a flick of her wand, and set about crushing her crystals into a fine powder before the water boiled.
Julie noticed that a girl not too far from her had her ingredients neatly arranged based on their colors, on the far right were the brighest ingredients while on the far she had put the darkest ones. "That's a good way to arrange your ingredients," she said to the seventh year Valerie Rice. Her water soon began to boil and Julie added the grey powder to it and then stirred it carefully. It turned a violent shade of purple after the 5 minutes past, just as the book had said it would. Julie waited for further instructions from Snape.

Standing now with hands clasped behind his back, Snape pased back and forth across the front of the room slowly watching as his students got to work, finally. Snape's expression darked when miracle boy walked into the room, turning back towards his desk to pase across the room scowling he walked over to his desk again.
With a flick of his wand a few more directions appeared on the board under the first set.
Step 4: While your potion simmmers prepper your Ash Root which will be needed in the 6th step.
Step 5: Stir your potion after the five minutes is up clockwise nine times then three times counter clock wise.
Steop 6: Add your Ash Root and stir continualy for two minutes at a slow speed clockwise.
Snape began to walk between the desks and huver over the students as they worked on their potions, coming to Potter her glared down at the boy then turned only slightly as he said "If any one part of those simple steps is performed incorrectly or out of order the potion is ruined and you don't get a second chance." Turning back towards Potter he questioned with a innoucent, or what was innoucent for him, smile, "Do you got that Potter? Where's your know it all friend at by the way?"

Pansy smiled as Dawn sat down next to her and mentioned the missing super duper incredible solve everything hero, dear mister Potter. "Whatever" Pansy said as she began to sort out her ingredients and prepare for the potion. Soon enough though, Potter showed up in class. A sly grin came over Pansy's face as she eagerly awaited Potter to do something, anything to bring down the wrath of Professor Snape.
As she waited Pansy began to boil her potion and add in her ingredients. "While she waited for her potion to be prepared for the next step, Pansy shot Potter a glance. "Hey Pottuh!" She exclaimed as he looked down at the table. "Whatcha doin' there Pottuh!" Pansy said, hoping that she could draw him into an idle conversation which would bring on Snape's wrath on Potter.

Kimi walked into the dungeon that served as the potions class room and glanced around the room for a place to sit. Spotting Dawn and Pansy she walked over and sat down on a vacant chair in front of them, turning sideways she questioned, “Did I miss anything?” To emphasize that she didn’t mean in class she glanced over in Potter’s direction.
Turning back around Kimi glanced over the instructions on the board. Standing up walked back to get the needed supplies for the Deflating Drought. Walking back to her seat she set to work on the potion.

"Pooooooooooooooooooootuuuuuuuh!!" Pansy kept muttering under her breath as she followed the directions on the board. Slowly she added her ash roots to the potion and continued to stir it slowly as instructed. Despite her efforts though, she had not yet gotten Potter in trouble and she wondered just where Draco was, he was usually the one to get the most fun out of Potter. Looking around she saw Crabbe and Goyle pretty much in a zombie-like state as they stared at the walls, they'd be of no use today. She would simply have to take matters into her own hands.
Grabbing some of her remaining chunks of ash root, Pansy set them down in a line on her table. Then one by one she flicked each tiny chunk of ash root with her finger in Potter's direction.

Harry kept on with his assignment as Snape singled him from the class. "I understand much too well, sir." Harry said as calm and as nonchalntly as he could. As Snape asked harry a Question he looked at him and shrugged his shoulders. Harry knew getting smart with Snape would lead him into trouble. It was best to not say anything.
Adding ingredients to his potion he stirred it. "Potttuh!" he heard in a far too farmilar voice. Pansy Parkinson, was trying to get his attention. Glaring down at his potion he decided not to turn around or even get his mind off this potion. Pansy was up to something, Harry didnt want to be appart of it.
He kept sturring his potion when he noticed a rather large clumps of ash root fly over top of his potion. Dropping his sturring stick he caught the ash root with his hands before it went into his potion. Putting the root onto his desk, he turned around and shot Pansy and the other Slytherin with her a dirty look while Snape wasnt looking. Shaking his head he went on with his potion, and tryed to go by the directions so he would actually get a grade for the day. For once in his potion career.

The second row of instructions appeared on the board."If any one part of those simple steps is performed incorrectly or out of order the potion is ruined and you don't get a second chance." "Typical Snape," thought Julie to herself. The whole point of coming to Hogwarts was learning from your mistakes. How could you gaurantee getting everything you tried right on your first try? They'd wouldn't need a professor if not to show them the right way to do things and be patient wheh they made mistakes.
Her Ash Root was already prepared so Julie stirred her potion after the five minutes were up, taking care to stir it the correct number of times and in the right direction. She then added the Ash Root and continued stirring, her potion almost finished. After she finished her final step, Julie looked around her at what everyone else was doing. The Slytherins and Snape as usual were trying to annoy Harry Potter.
Suddenly Julie had an idea. "Snape could kill me. Or worse, he could prevent me from taking Advanced Potions and I would never end up as an Herbologist." She didn't have much time to think. What she did next was not at all Julie-like. It must have been that both the Slytherins and Snape were giving Harry a hard time. Catching Harry's eye, she gave him a small wink. SNape had his back to her and was walking towards his desk. The other Slytherins were either still working or taunting Harry. She still had some water on her desk in a small beaker. Trying not to be too obvious, she walked over behind Pansy and quietly poured the water on the floor just behind her. It didn't touch her robes, but if she stepped on step backwards she would certainly slip. Quiet as a mouse she walked back to her place. Nobody had seen anything. Pansy was leaning over her desk and talking to Harry. Julie wondered whether Harry understood what she was trying to do.
She was feeling very worried and excited at the same time. She opened her book and pretended to be reading about the Potion, the adrenaline still pumping in her veins as she began to wish she had not acted so quickly.

Severus Snape stood with his back to the room and checked off mentally the steps he had already listed on the board. Taking note of what all was left, which wasn't that much. Hearing some one talking behind him he turned to look out at his class, taking note of everyone that came today, and those that chose not to. Even turned he could here the voice glancing around his room he spotted who it was, clearing his throught slightly he just turned back to the board, just in time to miss the Ravenclaw causing mischief.
Once again he made a few more directions appear on the board:
Step 7: After you have completed step 6 bring your potion back up to a boil and let it continue to boil for 3 1/2 minutes.
Step 8: Remove cauldron from heat and allow to cool.
Step 9: Stir in two tea spoons exactly of finally cruched phosperic acid.
Step 10: Once potion is room tempeture bottle a sample, after labeled bring it to the front of the class.
"As you can see you should all be almost done, by step 10 your potion should be a dark maroon, and if not you have most definitly boched it up somewhere along the line. That is all." With that Snape retook his seat behind his desk.
((When you finish your potion please say what color it is.))

Pansy carefully lined up her last ash root chunk and let it fly at Pottuh's head. Then Professor Snape put the next set of instructions upon the board. She was now to bring her potion to a boil once more. Taking out her wand again from her pocket she pointed it at the small fire under her potion. Though she realized that she would need to step back as the fire would get a little bigger.
Getting down from her stool Pansy took a step back and her left foot gave way on something slippery on the ground. Her left foot slide backwards until it smacked into the desk behind her and she stumbled down onto her knee. Trying to brace herself up, Pansy smacked her wand and wand hand hard upon her desk as she ended up on her knees. Glaring down at the ground, there was water all over! "Pottuh!!!" Pansy hissed as she got back to her feet and rubbed her knee and wrist. You'll pay for that one Pottuh! Pansy thought as she glared at him. Pansy then raised her hand, "Umm, Professor Snape!!" She exclaimed. "Potter spilled water behind my desk to make me slip" she said as she glared at Potter. "Oh, and when I slipped, I think I broke my wand hand wrist too!" Pansy whimpered as she gently rubbed her slightly hurt wrist.

Hearing a ruccess behind him Snape spun around just in time to see Pansy Parkinson hit the floor. The girl was on her knees in a puddle of water. Miss Parkinson then rased her hand for him, but he was already on his way over to see what in the world was going on in his class! Before he could ask what was going on she gave an explanation to him, nodding only slightly. "Well then Miss Parkinson if you believe your hand broken you should be off to the hospital wing. Have a fellow student escort you if you wish." Turning towards Potter without hesitation he said, "that will be 10 points from Gryffindor and a detention for you Mister Potter!" Glowering he added, "that is know way for a student to treat another student, your lucky I only took 10 points!" Heading back to his desk Snape's day felt much better, although for some reason he didn't believe the Perkins girls story he was never one to pass up an opertunity.

Sighing with bordom Kimi continued to work on her potion. After turning it up to a boil and kept it boiling for the 3 1/2 minutes, or atleast she thought that was how long she left it boiling. With a slight shrug Kimi took her cauldron off of the heat and allowed it to cool. Kimi smiled with amusement when she heared Pansy behind her continue to taunt Potter. Adding the two tea spoons of finally crushed phosperic acid Kimi began to gather a sample and label it.
Looking up surprised when she heared Pansy behind her she turned around to see her fall to her knees. Automaticly her eyes snapped in Potter's direction, she hadn't thought she saw him do anything but still had no problem with him getting in trouble when Pansy said it was his fault. Turning around completely Kimi looked around trying to figure out who did poor the water if it wasn't Potter. Eyes narrowed slightly upon her study of the students she was surprised she only jumped slightly when Snape spoke next to her. "You ok Pansy?" Kimi questioned as Snape began to walk back to the front.
Standing up Kimi fallowed the Professor to the front of the room with her potion sample which even though it wasn't darkmaroon, it was still maroon! Walking back to her seat she sat down and continued to study her other classmates wanting to figure out who did it.
((jeeze I just reminded myself of one of those murder games))

Nobody had noticed anything and Julie was beginning to feel slightly more relaxed, but still unsure about she had just done. However the deed was done and there was nothing she could do about it. She continued making her potion which became different colours and then finally became dark maroon.
Then, the nightmare began.
Pansy continued to annoy Harry. Then she stepped backwards while she was working on her potion, and slipped backwards. Julie heard her exclaim loudly that she had broken her wrist.
"Oh no. I never imagined that would happen. I just thought she would fall down and wet her robes and have to leave Harry alone."thought Julie, beginning to panic.
Then, the nightmare became worse.
Pansy accused Harry of spilling the water and Snape believed her and docked 10 points off Gryffindor! Julie didn't know what to do. She could not let Harry take the blame for something she had done. Julie was not brave and she hated to think what would happen to her when she owned up.
"What is father going to say when I tell him Snape banned me from taking Potions?" she thought to herself. But then she thought "Father would never let anyone take the blame for something he had done."
Julie stood up, shaking as ahe looked at Snape, her face red with guilt. She opened her mouth but no words came out. Then, not looking him in the eyes she said quietly but audibly "Professor, Harry d- didn't spill that water."
